An Andean wind instrument, made from a sea shell, which emits a powerful sound. In the Inca Empire, the pututu was used in healing rituals, sacred ceremonies and war situations. It was also used by the chasquis (young messengers of the Inca) to announce their arrival. During the Viceroyalty, the pututu was used to summon meetings or important events.
